How to Keep the Motivation Going

Two weeks ago, we featured an amazing story written by an inspiring woman: Nina, aka @PoloPrincessNYC. Nina's 100+lb weight loss story has inspired and touched so many lives... and we are so grateful for her for contributing to the Harlem Run family.

We wanted to hear a little bit more from her about how she stays motivated. Going through such a huge transformation is not an easy task... And it does not happen overnight. For anyone who has worked hard towards a goal - no matter what that goal may be - you know that motivation and inspiration can be hard to come by, especially when you've been working tirelessly towards your goals. So, what are some of Nina's best bits of advice? Read on for more...

 

  1. Stay active! Rest days are definitely important after lifting weights or intense workouts, but remember that our bodies were made to move. SO even on days you are not lifting/doing intense (sweating) cardio you should be getting out there whether you're going for a walk in the neighborhood, walking on an incline or going for a light 3 miler.

  2. Do a time log and see how much of your time you spend on the phone, texting, on facebook, watching your “favorite” shows, going out to dinner with friends, on Instagram (theres actually an app for that). If you spend at least hour, theres your workout time. Saying “I don’t have time” is an excuse. We all have time for what we chose to have time for. Which is ok. As long as your being honest with yourself #NoJudgementZone

  3. Download a calorie counting app. My favorite is Lose It!

  4. Hire a personal trainer (if you can). The value of the accountability of a standing appointment with someone is immeasurable. Just make sure they have the same belief systems you do and aren’t trying to push pills and fad diets on you.

  5. Don’t be afraid to try the kick ass hard as $&!* Bootcamp class. Do what you can when you can and before you know you’ll be killing it all
