What's up, Harlem?! This is your captain, Kai, checking in. How are those #YouVsTheYear miles looking? Good? Good.
First off, I just want to say that I am really happy and proud to be part of Harlem Run - the club, the crew, the community, and the movement. Believe it or not, I still get really pumped up before the run every Monday and Thursday night. Running is fun and all but the best part is playing catch up and learning more about everyone on an individual basis. Did you know that Larry is a video editor, Terria is a photographer, and Sara builds websites? I bet you had no idea because we all just run professionally right? Ha ha but isn't that cool? We have a pretty sick community of talent.
If you're reading this, you probably know that Harlem Run has grown immensely since Alison started this movement. Over the past few years and the past few months in particular, we have seen this group grow into something that we never really imagined possible. And while us captains and leaders of the group work around the clock to make that happen, the real reason for the change is the community.
We've been lucky to have met so many people and businesses in Harlem who have volunteered their time, knowledge, advice, and physical space to us. We really couldn't have done any of this without their help. Remember that time Bre led a yoga class for us at Black River Dance Studio? Remember when Tamara photographed us on the pier before our launch party? Or how about all those times SpringMoves welcomed us into their awesome space and let us hang out, eat, and dance with them?
As we look to the future of Harlem Run, we know how important community is. We also recognize how important volunteers are (and have always been) for us. So we wanted to put out a call for anyone reading this who may want to get involved and give back to all of us and the neighborhood of Harlem.
I know for sure that we don't wear running clothes 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. So tell me, what skills and talents do you have? Let's come together and build our own community of talents!
- Anyone good with Photoshop?
- Does anyone have spare office space where others can work from?
- How about Videography skills?
