Tonight, over 150 runners, walkers, and run-walkers from the NYC area gathered in solidarity to send a message to local officials and the parks department regarding the need for better lighting and infrastructure in our parks. A string of assaults and murders this summer prompted Alison Désir, aka @powderedfeet, Marnie Kunz, aka @runstreet, and Kathy Ioannou, aka @brooklynmomontherun, to organize the event in hopes that it would shed much needed attention on the issue. Each runner received lights, sponsored by Equinox and Run4Fun, and was able to truly feel the power of community. We are thankful for everyone who showed up and encourage you to continue to use your voice as a means to inspire positive change! We should be able to run without fear of violence. We expect and demand better. Please stay tuned for next steps and future events.
